It's just the beginning!

The Tent City Kid's Church in the beginning, we had no where to have the service so we squeezed the kids in the shade and did the service in the sun. We are so thankful to have a place to worship God together in the shade now.

IT'S JUST THE BEGINNING

These sandals were being held together by a string,
thankfully we were able to replace them with the
silver shoes behind them. Praise God!
It's been four and a half months since my husband and I have started doing children's ministry together in Haiti and we can hardly believe all that God has done already. We have given out hundreds of Bibles, vitamins, and shoes, we have preached the gospel in the streets, in orphanages, in churches, villages, and in tent cities. We have trained leaders, fed the hungry, helped find a home for homeless orphans, and it is just the beginning. It is our heart to minister to as many children as possible. You may ask, why children's ministry? Because the need is huge! With 35.9% of Haiti's population is under the age of 15, and statistics show that 85% of people who will receive Christ in their lives do so before they are 18. We need to reach them when they are young. Even Jesus, our example took time to minister to kids and told his disciples, "Let the little children come on to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14. Kids are the future of Haiti yet in Haitian churches, they are only aloud to come into the church if they have nice clothes and nice shoes on. Many children in Haiti do not have either. I have seen it with my own eyes. There are people that stand at the doors of the church but they are not greeters, they block the door and shew away kids when they try to go to church but are not dressed nice enough. This is why my husband have been starting Kid's churches. We believe God loves Haitian children just the way they are, dirty or clean, naked or clothed, we want to love and teach them all the Word of God. In this blog you will learn more about all that God has done in our Kids Churches and the orphanage that we are working with and about ways you can get involved in reaching the kids of Haiti.

Tent City | Cineas

Cineas was our first Kid's Church, when we went to start it we wanted to learn about the tent city and see if there has been any ministry to the children of the area before. We met with the Pastor of the church that is held in the tent city and we were told that there hasn't been any ministry to the children there but we couldn't minister to them unless we first have a feeding program to feed the kids each time we have a service. My husband shared with the Pastor, Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added be added to you." Then he shared his heart with her that he wanted the children to come to the Kid's Church because they wanted to learn about God. We wanted to teach the kids to seek the Lord and His righteousness and all of the needs the kids have will be met by God. My husband and I recognise that we are can not meet the needs of all the kids but we know God can. We believe as we all seek the Lord the food to feed the kids will come. The pastor didn't think it would work but months later the Kid's Church is going strong. Each Saturday we have 80-120 kids and 20-40 adults who come because it is their church, for many of them, it is the first time they have had a church that welcomes them and excepts them the way they are. The kids and parents that come now know and have a relationship with their loving God. We have been able to give out more than 200 Creole Bibles and we have all been reading 2 chapters a week and each Saturday we ask the kids questions about what they read that week and give prises to those who answer correctly. The kids are bringing there Bibles each week and are excited about the things of God. We have seen both kids and adults want to serve and help reach the people in their community and our team of workers has grown to 10 people whom we train how to minister to kids and then give them opportunity to practise what we teach them. We are excited about all the change we have see in the people already and it's just the beginning. Jesus is Lord over the tent city of Cineas.

The Joys of Ministering to Kids

While sharing about salvation, I used the illustration of a concrete block and asked the kids what 3 ingredients are in concrete, being from Haiti, they all knew the answer was water, cement, and sand. Then I shared with the kids 3 ingredients you need to be born again. One being repentance from sin and I shared with them what John the Baptist said, which was from the chapters we had read that week, which said "Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand." Minutes later it was time to ask the kids questions about what they read that week. We asked, "What did John the baptist tell people to do?" Our little Anderson thought he knew the answer for sure so we let him try and he said. "He told them to make concrete!" Gave me good giggle.

Boy Healed of a Fever

Handing out Creole Bibles at he Tent City

I was sitting down at the tent city and a little boy, about 7 years old, saw my Bible in my lap and picked it up and looked at it then looked at me and grabbed my hand and put it on his head and said "fever." He wanted me to pray with him. I didn't have a translator with me so I had to try to pray in Creole and said "Fever go in Jesus name." after we said amen I looked at him and he smiled and turned to his friend who was sitting next to me, he punched his friend and smiled super huge and looked at me and said, "The fever left!" and he ran away. He has been coming to Kids church each week since. God is good, even to those who punch their friends seconds after they are healed.

Pernier | Church Under the Mango Tree

This picture was taken during prayer, it was cute because all the kids
grabbed coconut tree branches to sit on.

Our Kids Church in the village of Pernier has also been going strong. We have been able to give about 100 Bibles and have 70-80 people at each service. The people their are hungry for God! We have a hard time leaving them each Friday when service is done because they are so grateful to have people come to them and preach the Word of God. The people look forward and prepare for us to come each week and even though many of them have received Christ just recently and have only owned Bibles since we gave them one, they are eager to reach the lost for Christ. We also have several young people who live in the village that we are training and teaching to be able to share the gospel and minister to the lost. We see so much potential in this area and this fall we hope to be able to go to the schools that surround the area and show the "God Man" movie and then invite the people to come to the Kids Church. We know it will explode with kids but first, this summer, we will continue to train our helpers and hopefully get some kind of seating solution for the kids.

Kids Church #3 | Babaco

My husband and I have had it in our heart to have 5 Kids Churches a week and we are so happy to announce we now have a third Kids Church! It is in a village called Babaco. Friends of ours have been building a church and have started a feeding program but had a need for someone to minister to the kids. My husband and I had gone there to help with a short term missions group and we fell in love with the people there. There is a lot of Voodoo in this area but not for long. We can't wait to saturate this area with the truth of the gospel and watch the darkness flee. The people there are not fed well or clothed well so we are excited to be a part of feeding them and we have shoes and vitamins to give to them also. The Kids Church is expected to start with in 2 weeks. Two verses come to mind when I am praying for Babaco, one is Isaiah 43:19 "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." I believe now is the time for change in Babaco, God is doing a new thing, it is their time of salvation. Isaiah 54:14 it says "In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you." That is my prayer for Babaco. Pray for us and the people of this village that God open their ears to hear and the hearts to recieve all that God has for them.

Making a mess :) I mean doing crafts with our 9 kids at Foyer D'Action Pour L'Avenir

Orphanage | Foyer D'Action Pour L'Avenir

Our sweet orphans are doing well. When I first met them in February they were all super skinny and living in leaky tents. Now they are getting healthier looking everyday and last week they finally moved into a home of their own. We have agreed to live there for a year. The house is super small but it is safe. We are working on several ideas that will better their quality of life. For example, if we can get the money raised, we want to hire teachers for them. None of them attended school before living at the orphanage so they are way behind. We also are trying to find an organization that will let us send our funds for them through their 501C3 so the supporters can get a tax write off. Also, soon we hope to be able to have individual sponsors for each of the orphans. Many good things are in the works. We are so thankful for everyone who has given to to the kids already. There were days when they had no food and water and my husband and I already gave all that we had but praise be to God, generous people gave and we were able to feed them. Thank you to those who give to the kids. They still have many needs. For example the landlord of the new house changed his mind and want us to to pay almost $1000 US by Wednesday which the original agreement was that we would pay that amount in 2 months. We also are trying to raise money to pay for their education and their living expenses are a constant need. God will provide, He always does.

It's just the beginning... My husband and I can already see ourselves passing our 5 kids churches on to able men and women who are able to teach others as we go on and start new Kid churches. We are believing for so many things. For example we want to start going to schools again, in Haiti schools are open for people to come and preach the gospel in them. Last spring we were able to preach the gospel to 43 schools to 9109 students in just 6 weeks. We haven't done any of the schools in the areas we now minister so we are believing God for a projector and a little generator so we can reach more children for God. We will go to the schools and show the "God Man" movie, which is one of the best children evangelism videos I have ever seen, then to continue being able to speak into the new converts lives we will try to connect them with one of our Kids Churches. We are working hard to reach the lost and multiply ourselves by equipping the Haitian people with the knowledge and resources they need to make a difference where they live. Like Romans 10:14-15 says "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” My husband and I have a call to preach the gospel to kids in Haiti so they can hear and believe and to send people out to do the same.

Pray

Please pray for us as we minister to the kids that the children would be raised up knowing their God, living like Jesus, and that they'd be able to bring change to the country. Also for our protection and that we would have favor everywhere we go. God is more than able.

Get Involved

If you are interested in getting involved with helping us reach the kids of Haiti. Here are some things you can give towards:
-Getting our car fixed $600. We have been going to all of our ministry sites either on foot or using public transportation which takes up way too much time.
-Rent for the orphanage $1000 by Wednesday
-Our personal expenses. We are full time missionaries and live off of financial gifts given by churches, family members, and friends
-A projector or generator (these would be cheapest if purchased in the States)
-You can send a donation to help cover the costs of running the ministry or to a specific need that is on your heart like shoes, food, Bibles, drinking water, or education.
We know not everyone come to Haiti and go from school to school or village to village preaching the gospel but you can help make it happen by your giving.

To send checks or a money order you can message me on Facebook or email missifia@yahoo.com and I'll give you the information on where to send it.

Thank you, we love you all

Boss and Missy

Wednesday 21 March 2012

This is me and my Husband Boss. We do missions work here in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. We fell in love and marriage soon followed but our heart for the needy quickly motivated us to begin doing ministry together as a couple. We dont have an official ministry name yet, we are not a 501c3 yet, but I can tell you what the Lord has put on our hearts to do. We both love the Lord and love love children and feel called to help kids in need. We have been working with kids in need in two ways so far. The first way is at Camita's orphanage. Camita has 10 kids and they live in tents right now. She took in the orphans when she had a home and the kids had no where else to go and several of them were malnurished. She unfortunatly had to move out of her home and is in need of support for her and the kids. We have been delivering vitamins, shoes, toothbrushes, and much needed food for them and are now trying to raise finances to finally get them into a home again.

Too many kids call this home.
The second way is ministering in a tent city not too far from our home. Tent cities started after the earthquake when people lost their homes and they were intended to be temporary but over two years later now thousands and thousands of haitian people are still living in tent homes. You might ask why are they still living in tent homes? The answer is... they lost everything. They lost family members, friends, their homes and cars, their work place, schools, and all with out any notice. Some have even choosen to stay in the tent city out of fear of another earthquake. It's sad to see people live in tents and our heart hurts especially for the children there. In the tent city that we work in there are hundreds and hundreds of kids and there is no school near by so most have not attended school regularly for over 2 years now. My husband and I have been going several times a week to the tent city to share God's word with the children and to pray with people. We also have been able to give out much needed shoes and vitamins to the kids. We hope to be able to help feed these children also and some how get them education whether it be by hiring some teachers or getting sponsors for the kids to be able to go to another school.
Some of our congrigation of kids at our tent city.
My husband and I are just two Jesus loving, people loving, people. We want to help those in need. If you or your church are interested in helping finacially with the tent city kids or the orphans we would be honored to deliver your gifts straight to the kids. We are working on setting up online giving but until then many people have chosen to go ahead and Western Union funds for the kids. Thank you for your interest in helping Haiti's kids. Please pray for my husband and I as we are needing favor with feeding organizations here to help us feed the kids so we can focus the finances that come in on housing. I can't wait to see these kids in Haiti healthy, educated, and living in homes, with God's help it will happen.
Thank you
